Howland Hill Road is a gorgeous one lane dirt road in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State park. The 10 mile stretch should be traveled through as slowly as possible. This is not a road you want to rush through, rather slowly savored. There is nothing like driving through a winding path carved out of the raw land based on tree growth. Many times you drive through an opening with trees on either side of you, almost close enough to reach out of the window and touch.
The only tricky part about this drive is that it is a one lane dirt trail. There are, however, many pull out places if you approach an oncoming car going the opposite direction.
If you have time, pull over and take a short hike to Stout Grove.
